Today’s New Habit Tip is…
Trust the Process of Success. Many scientists have established that it takes 21 days for a new habit to become an established subconscious process. During the early days of new habit building your mind is still figuring out how to make this new habit a part of daily life. There are obstacles and old habits that this new process needs to navigate or bypass. Allow yourself to go through this process of new habit creation and you will establish your own process of success.
I am building a new habit around investing in relationships. I am doing the weekly lunch with a friend, the monthly happy hour with the girls, and I’ll establish birthday cocktails with my girls as well. I am also checking in on a friend once a week. Five minutes of planning each day is helping me to reconnect and stay in touch with my friends much easier. I have gone through this habit creation process several times now and for some reason this one is the easiest habit to create. It could be because I understand the process better or because this habit truly only takes 5 minutes of planning each day and my rewards (so far just lunches) arrive more frequently.
Remember, your conscious and subconscious minds are gathering the positives of this new habit and working through the change. It is not perfect yet, but habit change is not about perfection it truly is about progress and sticking with it. Many scientists agree on the 21 day rule to habit creation. Keep working with your new habit.
